The event unfolded in Junagadh, where Shree Mamai Dev was engaged in a game of Chaupar with King Navghana. In the midst of the game, Mamai Dev suddenly grew somber, and his voice became soft. The concerned king asked him what had troubled him. In a calm, prophetic tone, Mamai Dev revealed, “Tonight will be my last night in Junagadh.”
The king, alarmed, asked if he or his kingdom had committed a grievous mistake. Mamai Dev reassured him that neither the king nor the kingdom was at fault. Instead, he revealed a prophecy: his death had been born that very night as a baby named Bambhanaya Sama in Saami Nagar, Sindh (modern-day Pakistan), as a karmic result of actions from one of his previous lives. In his earlier incarnation as Rashtikhan Pashta, he had mistakenly killed a righteous person. The cycle of karma had now come full circle.
King Navghana, shaken by the revelation, suggested they march to Sindh with their army to eliminate the newborn and prevent the prophecy from being fulfilled. But Mamai Dev, ever the embodiment of dharma, gently reminded the king that one cannot run from karma. He stated that living a righteous life in accordance with divine will is paramount, and one must accept the consequences of past actions with humility.
With that, Shree Mamai Dev journeyed to Saami Nagar to meet his foretold death. Upon meeting Bambhanaya Sama, the baby, in an extraordinary moment of divine recognition, smiled and began drinking milk. Mamai Dev gave the child a sacred leaf, the “dhrabh,” and in an act predestined by karma, Bambhanaya Sama used the leaf to decapitate Mamai Dev.
Even in death, Mamai Dev’s spirit transcended the physical realm. His severed head, placed on a plate, continued to speak, providing comfort and guidance to the people of Saami Nagar. He reassured them that his death was the will of the Almighty, Alakh, and emphasized that karma cannot be avoided. The people of Saami Nagar, overwhelmed by this miraculous event, were filled with awe and sorrow. As Mamai Dev’s decapitated body followed his speaking head on a final journey to Makli Village in Sindh, he predicted significant events that would shape the future, leaving behind a lasting legacy of spiritual foresight.
